Book finished: John Quincy Adams

John Quincy Adams by Harlow Giles Unger

I was a lot more interested in JQA than I thought I would be. Clearly one of the most educated and intelligent people of his time, an idealist and naive politically, despite being a very lackluster president, he should be remembered for his life both before and after the presidency. It's not many characters for whom being POTUS is the low point in their career. Especially his time in congress after the presidency was very interesting to read about.

This is a pretty short book and is necessarily a bit rushed, or perhaps it just seems that way having recently read the extensive Chernow Hamilton biography. For interest I'd give it 5 stars, I dropped one because I think it could have been a bit longer.
